Develop's Philosophy

People universally want good, healthy relationships in their lives. People need life education. Life education empowers people with information useful for designing the lives they want to lead.

Without education, people rely on experience to help them build relationships, plan marriages and families, and prevent problems in their parent-child relationships. But life experiences are not always adequate preparation for building the type of life we want to have. How do we do that?

We believe that delivering life education can help people by empowering them with information useful for planning the lives they want to lead.

Development is the key to well-being and healthy functioning. Under conditions that promote human development, people flourish and strive to reach their potential. Life isn’t always generous with support for development, but we believe that opportunities for development can be created—that’s what we do. Translating cutting-edge scientific theory and research, we teach people and families what we know about the ways people and families can take advantage of their strengths and resources. Through life education, we scaffold good ‘ole development; we encourage people to be the architects of their own lives. And as people become “experts in life” we sit back and watch people build strong relationships, we watch strong relationships form healthy families, and we watch healthy families raise thriving individuals. Because we strongly believe—development is the key to well-being and healthy functioning.

Education prepares us for work and careers. Life experience prepares us for life.

But there are gaps between life experience and the knowledge people and families need to build the futures they want. Life education provides the information that life experience does not provide. And sometimes our experiences fail to prepare us to do our best, sometimes our experiences aren’t the best guide to building a better future. Life education delivers information about different ways of being and becoming, choices and options for building a future or preventing an unwanted pattern from recurring.
